DAVIS, Calif. Nov. 1, 2017 The Department of Biomedical Engineering at the University of California, Davis invites applications for an Assistant or Associate Professor level position. The Department has 35 faculty members and is ranked 14th in the nation and 2nd in California in annual research expenditures (NSF rankings). The Department has existing strengths in the areas of tissue engineering, cellular and molecular engineering, biomechanics, biomedical imaging, micro/nano systems, therapeutics, and computational/systems biology. A Ph.D. degree in biomedical engineering or in a related quantitative discipline is required. Applicants must be able to teach core undergraduate and graduate courses, and be willing to help establish an innovative multi-disciplinary curriculum in the field of biomedical engineering. Candidates whose research interests complement, yet clearly extend, existing research strengths are particularly encouraged to apply.
While all areas of expertise will be considered, candidates with a background in immuno-engineering are preferred along with the ability to contribute to and benefit from existing research strengths within the Department (e.g., in quantitative biology, tissue engineering, stem cell biology, nanotechnology/nanotherapeutic drug delivery, degenerative diseases, and imaging/optics). In addition, the research program of successful candidates is expected to integrate various campus strengths (e.g., of the School of Medicine, the College of Biological Sciences, and the School of Veterinary Medicine).

The Department of Biomedical Engineering is the newest Department in the College of Engineering at the University of California, Davis. The Department is housed in the interdisciplinary Genome and Biomedical Sciences Building alongside faculty in the Genome Center and several School of Medicine programs, including Pharmacology. The Department is also home to the Center for Molecular and Genomic Imaging, a state-of-the-art facility for in vivo imaging in animal models, and TEAM (Translating Engineering Advances to Medicine). A new undergraduate major has been developed and the Department also plays an integral role in the interdisciplinary campus-wide Biomedical Engineering Graduate Group.
