coffee9The Department of Biomedical Engineering at the University of California, Davis, is seeking applications and nominations for the position of Department Chair. This is a senior level leadership position intended for candidates with an outstanding track record of research and professional accomplishments, leadership ability, dedication to education and commitment to faculty governance. The Department covers broad areas in Biomedical Engineering, both in teaching and research, with existing strengths in the areas of tissue engineering, cellular and molecular engineering, multi-scale biomechanics, biomedical imaging, therapeutics, micro- and nano-systems, and computational and systems biology, with an integrating theme of molecular and/or genetically based approaches to the measurement and modeling of biological systems, and to the diagnosis and treatment of disease. A candidate who will be able to synergistically build these programs and engage in translational endeavors is highly desirable. The successful candidate should also be eligible for appointment at professor level with tenure. A PhD degree in biomedical engineering or related fields is required.

eyeWhile all areas of expertise in biomedical engineering will be considered, candidates who would complement and extend existing research strengths within BME in quantitative biology tools, tissue engineering, stem cell biology, synthetic biology, multi-scale systems biology, nanotechnology/nano-therapeutic drug delivery, biomedical imaging/optics and the translation of engineering advances in medicine are of particular interest. The successful candidate is expected to help increase synergistic activities with industries relevant to department research thrust areas. S/he is also expected to interact with emerging biotechnology companies in the area and foster close relationships with the department.
