“Chemical tools for biomedical research”

A series of chemical tools have been developed in the Lam lab for biomedical research. These include (i) the use of one-bead-one-compound combinatorial library method to discover cell surface targeting ligands and blood brain barrier penetration peptides, (ii) the use of one-bead-two-compound combinatorial libraries to discover cell surface acting pro-apoptotic compounds and compounds that induce directed-differentiation of stem cells, (iii) the use of an ultra-high throughput cell-based solution phase assay to screen OBOC releasable small molecule libraries for anti-cancer agents, (iv) the development of a novel synthetic 3D-hydrogel for 3-D cell culture, (v) the development of novel genetic reporter systems for probing cell functions, and (vi) the development of novel nanocarriers for cancer therapy and imaging. The development and applications of these technologies will be discussed.
