Kyriacos Athanasiou has received one of the highest honors the Biomedical Engineering Society can bestow upon its members: the Distinguished Service Award.  BMES President Richard Waugh presented the award to Dr. Athanasiou at the BMES annual meeting in Hartford, CT on Oct. 13, 2011. In presenting the award, Dr. Waugh noted Dr. Athanasiou’s achievements as a past BMES President, Board Member, and current Editor-in-Chief of the Annals of Biomedical Engineering, the flagship publication of the BMES. The BMES Distinguished Service Award is presented periodically to recognize members who have made extraordinary contributions to the Society.
