Teaching Faculty in Biomedical Engineering at UC Davis
The Department of Biomedical Engineering at the University of California, Davis invites applications for a teaching faculty position. This is a full-time Lecturer position with Potential for Security of Employment (LPSOE parallels the position of an assistant professor on track for tenure) or with Security of Employment (LSOE parallels the position of a tenured faculty member).
A Ph.D. degree in biomedical engineering or in a related quantitative discipline is required. Applicants must be able to teach core undergraduate and graduate courses, and be willing to help evolve an innovative multi-disciplinary curriculum in the field of biomedical engineering. Candidates should have a demonstrated commitment to undergraduate and graduate education in bioengineering, strong interest and background in engineering design, and a record of effective and innovative teaching at the interface between Engineering, Biology, Physiology and Medicine. Preference will be given to individuals with skills to teach quantitative or computer-aided simulation, engineering design and entrepreneurship. The responsibilities include the teaching of core courses including laboratories, continuous improvement of curriculum, participation in accreditation activities, and development of new educational initiatives. Successful submission and funding of grants related to education is strongly encouraged. Candidates with experience or willingness to engage in activities that contribute to diversity and inclusion are especially encouraged to apply.
The Department of Biomedical Engineering has experienced rapid growth over the past decade to 35 faculty members, and serves over 450 undergraduate students in an ABET accredited program. The Department has existing strengths in the areas of tissue engineering/regenerative medicine, cellular and molecular engineering, biomechanics, biomedical imaging. micro/nano systems, therapeutics, and computational/ systems biology. BME faculty benefit from close collaborations with the School of Medicine, Division of Biological Sciences, and School of Veterinary Medicine. The Department is home to state-of-the-art resources and facilities that serve both our academic and research programs, including the Center for Molecular and Genomic Imaging and the TEAM (Translating Engineering Advances to Medicine) Design, Prototyping, and Fabrication Laboratories.
