NIH SBIR/STTR Programs – An Overview

Dr. Jennifer Shieh, Small Business Coordinator & Program Director, Office of Translational Alliances and Coordination, National Institutes of Health, National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute, will give a presentation about the SBIR and STTR programs at NHLBI/NIH on Friday, June 3rd, 10:30 – 11:30 am. At her talk, Dr. Shieh will meet with teams 1-on-1, to address specific questions – if interested, you must reserve a spot at this link: http://bit.ly/UCDavis-NHLBI-2016. The Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) programs are one of the largest sources of early-stage capital for technology commercialization in the US. These programs allow US-owned and operated small businesses to engage in federal research and development that has strong potential for commercialization. SBIR/STTR programs are excellent sources of non-dilutive funding for small businesses. The NIH SBIR program permits and encourages research partnerships with academic institutions. The NIH STTR program requires that the small business formally collaborate with a research institution. By attending the seminar, you will:

  • Learn about NIH funding & support to get your innovative research out of the lab and into patients
  • Decide if the SBIR/STTR programs are right for you
  • Find out more information about programs for heart, lung, blood, and sleep technologies for startups and academic investigators

All interested individuals are invited to attend: faculty, postdoctoral fellows, researchers, students, entrepreneurs, small business executives, and others who might benefit from learning about the NIH SBIR and STTR programs.
